CentOS is now up to version 5.2.

It's easily assumed that upgrading from version 4.4 to 5.2 involves many changes - likely more than what was current when this was written.

Obviously, don't confirm removal if it wants to remove everything, this comes down to simply basic systems administration.

Watch what you are doing! You can reinstall yum by using rpm.

I happily ran "yum remove hal" and assured by your message I said OK to removing 207 packages... Unfortunately it seems this command has removed literally everything including yum! So "yum clean all" returns "/usr/bin/yum: No such file or directory"!!!!

I'm a little confused...

Hi there!

Thanks for this nice tutorial. I tried to follow these steps to upgrade a CentOS 4.6 machine to 5.2 headless but it didn't work out (too many dependency problems).
When I tried to `yum remove hal` it suggested to remove 207 additional packages which is not what I wanted.

Any ideas?
