I recently wrote an entry about Telstra’s now we are talking website.
The website is filled mostly with corporate propaganda, and deceitful information. The goal of the website is to lure shareholders and consumers to fight the government to relax regulation on Telstra.
On the website, a passage on the discussion forums reads:
We want to hear what you think. We’ll publish different views so everyone can join in the discussion.
So, I thought I’d put that passage to the true test, and post a comment that states the obvious truths about Telstra’s recent actions, a full copy of the content I wrote is below:
The issues with Telstra simply don’t seem to change.
The big picture isn’t what this website here might want you to believe (i dont see it impartial, its ran by Telstra), the picture that needs to be highlighted is that:1. Telstra have paid for the copper network (and many times over).
2. Telstra is a private company, and has a due responsibility to its shareholders.
3. The ACCC are the police for the TPA, and therefore, couldn’t care less about Telstra’s profits, but rather, competition in Australian telco (that’s their job!).
4. Telstra fighting the government will only give reason to those that voted the government in, to simply move away from Telstra (we do vote our government in, fairly), Telstra seem to have forgotten that?
5. The G9 FTTN proposal makes sense. It brings ADSL2+ broadband to Australians, without the artificial limits that we’ve been put through by Telstra / Bigpond for many years (Telstras 8Mbit product has always been available, they just always limited the product, and now, it’s still limited to a 384kbps upload, likely so VoIP doesn’t wipe out Telstra’s profits) But VoIP can work at 384kbps nicely anyway.
6. Other ISPs have done a lot more for broadband in this country in the last 3 years, then Telstra has done in the last 6 years or more of having ADSL services running.
7. Other ISPs services are sold cheaper then Telstra’s, even ADSL2+ wholesaled from Optus, to other ISPs are cheaper then Telstra ADSL1. Why is that? Telstra aren’t interested in Australian consumers. Telstra seem to be simply greedy, without investing and retailing ADSL2+ in more areas that it is available (nearly all exchanges are ready for ADSL2+, it would seem).
8. Sol is here to bring profits to shareholders, Sol can’t seem to accept that regulation will always affect Telstra, and accepting that, and working WITH regulation would see better results, compared to the current ‘Screw the ACCC’ Telstra shareholder funded campaign, which will likely fail.
9. Telstra seemingly forgets that its shareholders are also Australian consumers and most certainly won’t tolerate wiping competition out, so Telstra can rip Australians (and Pensions, low income earners off).On the issue of LSS not being bundled with HomeLine Budget, Telstra have NEVER marketed the product, or stated in its terms and conditions that its for Pensioners, further, Telstra haven’t ever made criteria for going onto the product ‘HomeLine Budget’ (see the internet archives). HomeLine Budget isn’t intended to be ‘For Pensioners’, as can be seen by its overly high call costs, compared to other plans. HomeLine Budget is designed to be as stated, a product for those that don’t make many calls… Telstra changed terms of the product recently, as its profits are likely being negatively affected by VoIP.
Let’s see if this one gets deleted for some absurd reason.. Let me guess: Telling the truth is a deletion reason?
After posting, I began the wait for a email or approved post.
Just today, I received an email from “the editor”, stating that my submission didn’t meet now we are talking discussion guidelines. You be the judge, did my post seem to be against the guidelines of nowwearetalking?
I did read the discussion guidelines, and my comment fit those guidelines in my opinion near 100%.
Why was it rejected? Easy.
The good people at Telstra don’t want the viewers of the “nowwearetalkingtrash” website to know the truths outlined in my post. They rejected my post simply so the average Joe’s that don’t know any better get Telstra’s biased view, and not the views of the wider community.
Viewers of the now we are talking trash website are encouraged to stop viewing and supporting the website, and instead, lash back at Telstra for pestering the government that we Australian’s voted in.
Further, I encourage all to take up services from other Telco’s where possible, or taking the HomeLine Budget plan, and using VoIP via another providers broadband services, and assist with the demise of Telstra, by reducing their profits, we will eventually see some change in tune for Telstra, even if it means closure. I am tired of the immature behaviour by its current management.
As a responsible publisher of content, I will invite the NowWeAreTalking editor to provide the viewers any comments he / she likes based on the content published above.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackIt is rather refreshing to read your comments. Following many years of negative service from Telstra, I moved to Southern Cross Telco and haven’t looked back. When my mother in law experienced difficulties with her ‘phone line I discovered NWAT and posted there. Within an hour I received a call checking my true existence. Reading whirlpool for a while I considered the remarks that the post were edited rather unfair, since my posts were published in their entirety, until things changed. Fists my posts were shortened, replies (by the editor) referred to things I didn’t say and finally they stopped publishing my posts altogether. In a way it is good to see though, that plenty of people continue to complain about various aspects of Telstra, sometimes without comment, sometimes with a weird answer and sometimes with rather insulting replies. More people should make posts on NWAT, showing the Telstra attitude. Drown them!
Most users would do that, in fact, I’d say a lot of whirlpool users would post on NWAT in a heartbeat.
The issue is, they censor comments. As I proved with my post, it’s all censorship, and even some claims of posts being twisted where Telstra can’t refute the point.
They don’t want their customers and shareholders seeing key points like:
1. Data doesn’t cost $150/GB.
2. They aren’t selling services below cost because of the ACCC.
… and so forth.
Those comments destory the campaign, but, they are the truth. Helen Coonan is likely aware of this point also, and I would at this point, recommend Helen continue her position, as she is very much more capable in the job, then previous statements by Press about the opposition, Senator Conroy, who I find very much misinformed about technology.. In fact, why does he even have that job?
Anyway, thanks for your comments, it’s always good to hear some replies from others on my blog, be it negative or positive, as you can see from my “Netspace moving disaster”, where a Netspace staff member posted, and comments remained happily (i’ve got nothing to hide).
