NWAT: Government NOT to blame for shareholder purchases Pt. 2

September 27th, 2007 · No Comments

Vasso (a NWAT shareholder and regular misinformation courier on the NWAT forums) replied to my recent comment on the Telstra forums.

I wrote back clarifing further!

Vasso, I’m not dreaming, there was an actual article in several online news sources which quoted the government for seeking to reduce its conflict of interest (see: http://www.treasurer.gov.au/tsr/content/transcripts/2006/128.asp).

Vasso, I don’t need to repeat myself here. See the above link, before T3 sales occurred.

Public information that shows clearly they were dropping Telstra ownership to remove conflict of interest.

If the shareholders who bought didn’t read that, or didn’t investigate the purchasing decision, who is at fault? It was public knowledge the sale was to remove conflict of interest.

It has done that to a substantial level, and the future fund selling the rest will see the ultimate finish to the conflict, and therefore the government will hold the role of regulator, not shareholder, which is ideal.

Regulators role is to ensure a competitive playing field. Regulations are doing that, but more regulations are needed to enforce a level playing field for competition.
