I’m amazed by the amount people are paying for houses at the current moment.
It’s a supply and demand situation, as revealed by a report a while ago, that I was reading.
Essentially, the First Home Buyers Grant, and other related items forced prices to become inflated by the amount of the grant, and to top it [...]

There was an article published in Australian IT, located here: http://www.australianit.news.com.au/story/0,24897,23021828-15306,00.html
Essentially, the author claims that filters are ‘needed’ to battle child pornography.
I disagree, it is not filters that will stop the distribution of child pornography, and it is not filters that will protect children from finding inappropriate content.
Filters will simply not do the job. I [...]

It seems that no matter what is dangled in front of Telstra, they won’t have a part of it.
And whatever moves are taken to control Telstra’s unlawful actions in the industry, they simply push harder for more.
They seemingly are declaring war on everything.
- ACCC: Apparently they do the job of protecting consumers very well. Too [...]

Mobile providers are stretching the ADSL market more strongly with plans designed to provide basic broadband services to users at prices that in some cases shatter ADSL prices.
Vodafone apparently has new plans coming out soon which offer 5GB of data for $39 a month.
The speeds of mobile services typically ranges from 512kbps to 14.4Mbps, though [...]

A problem that is identified with Labor’s broadband plan is they plan to use FTTN technology. So, the government has chosen a technology to deploy.
FTTN isn’t the best technology for providing services to users. In fact they might have chosen a technology that limits the service availability to those who decide not to get a [...]

There’s two key providers lined up to get involved on the bidding for FTTN.
Those two are none other than Telstra, the company that expects a extremely high margin from what is essentially a VERY basic communications service, and the other company being G9, who are a consortium of companies specialising in providing network technologies, much [...]

At least on climate change.
Kevin Rudd started work on Climate Change on Sunday, and we haven’t seen much follow on from there yet.
However, he does seem keen to get some action happening, trying to bring together his government as quick as possible to start acting as quick as possible.
No idea why he wants to move [...]

What on earth happened over the last week? Not heavily packed, but packed none the less.
Monday, we had to get my server back online, and change systems around, and set up my partners machine. That task carried over through Tuesday with software setup.
The changeover was a smooth change, and turned out to be a good [...]

The winner of this election isn’t the Coalition as originally anticipated (though I did indeed second guess Labor).
The winner of this election definitely isn’t the Labor party. They didn’t win the election, they might have got voted in, but they most certainly didn’t win.
The winners of the election are the Unions who spent up big [...]

… Well, it’s not misleading is it. It’s coming. Saturday.
Who to vote for is still the unanswerable question, for I am sure, many people, simply because there’s no real distinction between each party, mainly because it is dominated with me-too.
Considering a vote for Kevin or a vote for John is going to yeild many [...]

Unfortunately (and its very unfortunate), the update I planned to release tonight isn’t going to go ahead as planned due to an issue with a particular provider.
The particular provider issue wasn’t determined until just recently, but has been fixed.
The reason for the delay? Well, I was investigating that issue and the time it took to [...]

News that the parents of child that starved to death now have warrants issued against them for Murder has surfaced. Which is shocking really, because the father seemed to maintain and protest his innocence.
But if they truly were responsible for that (who lets a child get to that low weight in the first place?), then [...]

This election is a close one. A remarkably close one.
Policies from both sides are both favourable and the result of gross incompetence. Unfortunately, picking the party that offers what a voter might want is TOUGH.
Just 24 hours after I had come to a good stronger (not solid) decision to perhaps give KRudd my vote, I [...]

It’s amazing. Out of all that Telstra do that is wrong, they actually (inadvertently) got something right. That is, the influence they tried to cause by making issues surrounding regulation political.
Since doing that, they have continually bagged the current government, in an effort to influence the voters to vote Labor.
And, they seem to all have [...]

A new idea from the man of new ideas (sometimes unrealistic), Morris Iemma.

Brilliant thinking Morris. Very brilliant. What do you think you will acheive here? Let’s have [...]

The election is just 12 days around the corner as I look at my watch and see the date is the 12th of November.
The next 12 days in my opinion should show even more campaign toughness for my vote. I’m still undecided, though still Liberal supporting when I think of Labor with Telstra (who should [...]

Aside from the possible fines for not voting, I wanted to know the reason why people were voting for their chosen choice.
Obviously I do estimate there are many who are still yet to form a firm decision, for a few reasons, one of which for me is that the policies of both the major parties [...]

I think a real question the broadband / telco industry should be asking itself right now is “Do we need FTTN” ?
The implications of FTTN are favoured by both sides, you can imagine being in Optus at the moment, with the G9 project possibly coming ahead, and all that fat profit that they’ll get from [...]

There was three seperate topics I wanted to write about tonight.
Problem for me is, writing three seperate topics would take considerable time that I could be doing other things with.
I’ll do short recaps of the two items I was going to do this post on, and focus primarily on the next Telstra scam afterwards.

Both technology ministers in our government are near, if not complete, luddites.
Joining Richard Alston, as luddite IT minister, is Helen Coonan, who recently went on the public record with the ABC, stating:
“The technical limitations are of course that the fibre doesn’t go beyond 1.5 kilometres of a telephone exchange or a node.”
Which is a complete [...]

Tonight, I was watching with amazement (or lack thereof) the great debate between JHoward and KRudd.
Unfortunately, for me anyway, I still am undecided specifically on someone to favour for the election.
It really does suck to be me, because I really, honestly, cannot determine who to pick for at least the next 4 years of government.

Thinking recently about the announcement of tax cuts by both sides of government if elected, the result would be around $1,700 back in the hands of taxpayers a year.
That’s a bit of money, sure.
Will many miss it should they simply spend that money elsewhere? No! They probably wouldn’t.
Tax cuts are useful to some people, but [...]

Senator Conroy in all his wisdom (or lack thereof) has recently claimed the government’s plan to invest in the OPEL network, with a $958 million government grant is not going to fulfill the proposed 99% coverage of the nation.
1. OPEL never committed to that level of coverage. That was a Coonan announcement, and wasn’t based [...]

Yet again Helen Coonan disappoints fans with another bad decision.
The DCITA recently awarded $98 million to the pigs at Telstra for installing ADSL services in Regional exchanges. 211 of them.
Unfortunately, however, the list demonstrates that many of the exchanges Telstra are choosing to deploy into already have government funded, and competitively priced, services in them [...]

It has finally, finally been announced.
John Howard finally got the balls up to call the election, on November 24.
I guess this has a few key issues to consider, but the more important one is, who will we be calling our Prime Minister?
John Howard - Liberal
Kevin Rudd - Labor
Both are capable leaders of our nation.
Both have [...]

Solution 1 would be to take the licenses off them, and jail them where they might learn how to speed while walking!
But seriously, that’s not a entirely realistic solution, as all it will acheive is more people in prison, but the roads will obviously end up “less dangerous”, purely because speeding would be removed as [...]

Telstra’s latest attempt at trying to patch things up with the government seem to have been deployed in a typical Telstra way: Incorrectly.
